Business Link launches social enterprise toolkit

Entrepreneurs setting up or running a social enterprise can access free support and guidance, following the launch of an online toolkit by Business Link in London.

Features in the toolkit include an interactive business planning tool, which offers a step-by-step guide to creating a personal business plan. A business review facility is also available to help new and established ventures identify their strengths and weaknesses.

In addition, 50 Business Link guides are available on practical topics ranging from funding and finance to legal structures and marketing.

“Social enterprise is increasingly playing a bigger role in the wider economy,” said Business Link in London adviser, Tamara Pekelman. “However, the unique nature of these enterprises often means they have specific issues that require specialist information and support which is particular to the sector. We believe the Social Enterprise Toolkit is an incredibly exciting new development that helps meet that need.”

Amy Bicat founder of community arts business, Artburst, said there was a clear need for specific support aimed at social enterprise ventures. “Social enterprise can be a confusing area when you first start out,” she said. “The most challenging areas for us were looking for funding and sponsorship, bidding for contracts and understanding the best legal structure for our business.”
