I have been suspended from work following an allegation of bullying and harassment. I havent been told who made the accusation just that there will be an investigation. If the allegatoin is made by anoher employee, must he also be suspended? The way I see it is that if I am suspended and he is still in work then the finger of guilt will be pointing at me as I have been removed from the work place. I have been off work for a week now with no contact from my HR dept, is this reasonable?

NEED HELP OR ADVICE>>>My husband is in same kind of situation. He is suspended on friday..but reason for suspenion is bit unfair..thats what I think. My husband works in pharmaceutical company and he refused to work on highly dangerous compound as he is feeling bit unecure. This product is so dangerous that if it falls on your skin in nano grams it will penetrate through skin and block your heart in 5 mins time....I am expecting baby , baby is due in 3 months time and he is feeling more responsible so he doesnot want to put himself in risk though there are safety mesures...He told his boss that he can train other people on that product but he wont work on it... he worked onle once on that product but it wa on the request..there are 8 other people but his boss is forcing him only my husband..when he said that he will train others but he wont work on it...he just asked HR to uspend him...I am really worried as it looks like it is descremination to me ...because nobody else is ready to work on thi product .but they are not forcing them as all other are local british people but they are forcing my husband as he is asian...and they suspended him for this ..
I am concerened about his job ..if he loose his job it will be really nightmare for us as baby is due and I will be away from work for few days..plus i am not earning much money so I can support whole family..We just dont know what to do in this situation...
Will they dismiss him..or should we wait till they call.. ..they said that HR will give him ring and will call for meeting..but I just dont beleive these people..what should my husband talk about in meeting..what if they dismiss him? Can we appeal against their dismissal...
My husband is thinking to give HR ring and tell them that he is ready to work on that product..as we cannot afford to loose job....then can they allow him start his work....they siad that this suspension will be paid...but how long it will take?
In short - Yes
It is the company directors duty to protect each member of staff and your suspension ensures they are doing this, there is no requirement at this stage to inform you who made the claim nor to suspend the person who did make the claim
You didnt mention how you found out you had been suspended, I presume this was notified in writing to you. Whilst on suspension it is likely that you will remain on full pay pending the investigation, if you continue to receive payment on time and the correct amount it is perfectly acceptable for the company to take as long as they wish - afterall it is the company that is losing.
The company are legally obliged to conduct an investigation that provides them the information to let them decide what to do, it is illegal for them to have predetermined the outcome of this, if this is fact and you have evidence to backup your claim, I would suggest you take legal advice to your next steps.
I would suggest that you read your contract of employment to ensure all procedures have been followed and also what the correct grievance procedures are for yourself.
Thanks for quick reply..
He called for meeting by HR and asked him few questions about his concerns..HR person was bit shocked as he was not aware of my husbands side..they didnot gave hime any written notice about suspension but just verbal notice that he need to be offsite..and it is bit strange ..they told him that he will be paid but verbaly...
Should we start looking for other job for him..
