Hiring, firing, holding steady

The employment law pages of the Law Donut are always among our most popular. That applies both to our pages about recruitment and about letting people go.

We'd like to take a snapshot of our readers' expectations for the year ahead. What do you think is in store for employment in your sector during 2010?

Will there be:

  • more people employed
  • fewer people employed
  • no change

Let us know what you think....

I think for smaller companies there will be an increase in staffing this year. My own company has doubled in size in the last 5 months up to 10 people. We've done this because we realise that to grow we have to have the best people we can.

Richard - it sounds like you're one of the lucky ones. Overall, UK employment rates are at their lowest for about 12 years, so doubling your staff against that backdrop is quite a feat! But I suppose that for businesses looking to expand there must be a lot of willing candidates out there now, given the state of the labour market? With your recent five hires, have you found it any easier than previously to find the kind of high-quality recruits you're aiming for?
